As we used to say when I was growing up in Brooklyn,
we’re calling a “do-over” on last week's sketching event.
We had a great day planned for our sketch event but rain kept many people away. I’ll admit - the weather was discouraging, although we did have a good morning and a very sociable lunch.
We will start at the old Police Headquarters and work our way south through Little Italy. You can read last week's notes which talks about why this is a great location. Suffice to say we’re starting at one of the best Beaux Arts buildings in NYC. And the neighborhood itself is fascinating. Lots to see and lots to draw!
What: We will be sketching NOCAN - North of Canal Street
Where: We’re meeting at the Old Police Headquarters, located at 240 Centre St. (see map). We will meet at the corner of Broome and Centre Streets.
When: Meet at 10 AM. Saturday, September 17, 2022 Sleeping late? Come anyway - we’ll be there
- By Subway:
Spring St. - #6 train
Canal St. - #6, J or Z train
Grand St. - B or D train
Bowery St - J or Z
(see map below).
Lunch: 12:30 PM . Bring your own or rely on local vendors. There are loads of food options in this neighborhood. There are two parks nearby, the triangle shaped park labeled #1 on the map will be our first choice for lunch and for our Show and Tell. The park labeled #2 is our backup location.
Afternoon: 1:30 PM Back to the sketching
Show and Tell: 3:00 PM - We’ll find a likely spot (probably where we had lunch) to share our work, tell stories and talk about what artists talk about.
- Bring a hat and be prepared for sunshine
- Bring a stool, it gives you more options. There are no benches in this area
